Destiny is for those that listen. Fate takes care of the rest.

If you're here, you must be feeling the need for a stronger sense of security than what you now have. I won't waste your time filling pages of script telling you why you need to store up supplies of food and sundries. Let's get right to it. Take up a new hobby. It's called saving your life, and your family's.

TEN IMPORTANT DECISIONS THAT NEED TO BE MADE:

1. First and foremost, you need to decide that you (and your family) need to be prepared for an emergency. In order to do that, you may have to leave your comfort zone. Most people do not want to consider being inconvenienced. They refuse to ,"Live in fear." I've heard this so many times. When TSHTF they will be the first to state that no one told them anything about this. Most of us will perish in a serious emergency. Do you want to live?

2.You'll be using monies that you may have a more urgent need for right now. This boils down to a matter of priorities. You must find a way to buy a few extra cans at least once a week. You'll be surprised at how quickly it ads up. Look at this as an enjoyable challenge. Don't be afraid. Be smart. Our rulers want us afraid. Don't give them the satisfaction.

3. If you are on prescription medications, you are very vulnerable, as you must know. You must give this situation a lot of thought.
Most of these drugs have a narrow shelf life. You must be prepared to get as much as you can as fast as you can, at a moments notice. This may require you to have some cash stashed.

4. You will be stunned at how poorly prepared you are right now to survive any emergency situation. I hope this statement starts you thinking. I'm still coming up with things to consider and I've been doing this for a long time.

5. You would be wise to locate yourself close to a stream, lake or river, if at all possible. You can't go wrong with a source of water close by. If the electrical grid goes down, all pumps will quit. I lived in Lake Havasu City a couple of winters ago. There are several gigantic aqua ducts that pump over one billion gallons a day to Los Angeles. Guess what happens if the grid goes down?

6. How far can you go on a tank of gas, if you had to? Think about this. It may turn out to be very important. Keeping the tank full could save your life. Realize your driving range.

7. If you are in an apartment, can you defend it? Do you want to?

8. If you live in a house, does it look great. You don't want it to. You don't want to invite marauders. The nice looking homes will be the first ones that desperate people will visit. Is it fenced? I hope so. Get a big dog, a mean looking one.

9. You don't want to be below ground. I know that people fortify basements, buy silos, build underground bunkers, etc. The feds have even gone so far as having built under ground city complexes with our tax dollars. Think about a mole in a hole. These scenarios are not defensible, no matter what you've been told. Don't be stupid enough to bury yourself prematurely. There will be above ground survivors, and they will not be happy campers.

10. Stay mobile. Can you get to high ground, if you had to? Is it within your driving range? Think about all of this. Most people have not because they must leave their comfort zone and that's not fun. Besides, many of us have been educated to think that the government will take care of us. I believe that our government would like to see most of us disappear.

I have stored food for emergency use for the last twenty years. There is a warm fuzzy feeling that comes with opening that storage door and seeing several cases of canned food sitting there. Canned food will last for many years. After all, you can always eat it or give it to the local food bank. How can you lose?
I spent about six months as a volunteer working in a low income veterans food distribution outlet in Western Montana several years ago. Almost all of the food that we received in was past its expiration date. I learned how this system works. That's why I like canned foods. If the top isn't bulging, it's still good to eat. Period. Some pastas will last many, many years. But, there's no way of telling whether it is still good to eat. Honey will last forever. Water that has sat for quite a while may need to be purified. Cereals are garbage. You would be better off to eat the box that it came in. It's more nutritious.

TEN MAJOR ITEMS THAT YOU'LL NEED FOR SURVIVAL:

1.  Water - Cases, storage containers. Do you have a camper? Does it have a water tank? Rain barrels. I know that in some states it is illegal. But........ Water filters and other purification equipment.

2.  Food - Canned (my favorite) all varieties especially fruits and vegetables. bags of rice and wheat, peas, lentils, yeast, etc. Dehydrated is OK but remember that you'll need water.
Food for long range survival - Seed vaults work here. You'll need a garden, a way to defend it and lots of time. But, get one anyway.

3.  Medical supplies - Bandages, band aid, Hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, etc.

4.  Clothing - Heavy and light. Need shoes. Get an extra pair

5.  Heating necessities - Winters get cold in many states. You'll need a way to keep warm. Fireplaces smoke. How about a propane heater?

6.  Sundry items - can openers, garbage bags, paper products especially t-paper, soaps, shampoo, cleaning supplies, etc.

7.  Lighting supplies - candles, batteries, flash lights, matches, lighters. There is a flashlight out there that doesn't use batteries.

8.  Barter items - Important item here too. Buy extra batteries, matches, medical supplies, candles and some ammo that you don't use. These things can be important. Precious metals don't hurt either.

9.  Alternative cooking facilities - Got a camp stove and extra propane bottles? Get one. They don't smoke and also heat.

10. Items for self defense - Last but not least. Now that you have all of the above, you may have to defend it. Let me tell you up front that I have done a lot of testing on various fabrics for body armor use. The ammunition that is almost useless against any sort of body armor encompasses most of the popular hand guns and they are the 22 long, .32, 9mm, .38, 40cal., 45auto. If you are going to buy a handgun, buy a real one. Don't buy anything less than a .357 Mag. Shotguns also have their limitations.

A hunting knife may come in handy. Ever think about a crossbow?
